There are several customs of hospitality that are practiced in the Igbo culture. As a visitor going to someone else's home, you generally bring a goatskin so that you have something to sit on. Lines are drawn on the floor with chalk when visiting as well. Company is fed kola nuts, and alligator peppers. Breaking the kola nut is a sacred tradition that is very honorable. Whoever breaks the kola nut must offer a blessing or prayer to the ancestors for life, health and protection from the enemies.
